Celebrating 25 Years: NTAS Monthly Garden Theatre

The National Theatre Arts Society (NTAS) and Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, Patiala, in collaboration with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (400/220 KV Sub Station, Patiala), organized the 278th Monthly Garden Natak Mela to commemorate the 25th Silver Jubilee Foundation Day of the NTAS Monthly Garden Theatre Movement.

The historic celebration, led by Padma Shri awardee Pran Sabharwal and Sunita Sabharwal, was inaugurated by eminent personalities including Inder Mohan Singh Bazaz (M.D., Bazaz Sons), NRI writer and columnist Amarjeet Baweja (Canada), Paramjit Singh (DGM, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.), S. Dharampal Singh Chauhan (Retd. SBOP Manager, M.D. Royal Ark, Dharampur, Solan H.P.), and Jasbir Singh Oberoi. The event began with the chanting of shaloks and tributes to Lord Shiva, and was dedicated to the 350th Shaheedi Divas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji.

In his inaugural message, philanthropist Dr. S.P. Singh Oberoi (Dubai), Head of Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, praised NTAS for its 24 years of continuous contribution to the Garden Theatre Movement, especially for raising awareness about the supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji through theatre performances.

Chief Guest Indermohan Singh Bazaz paid heartfelt tributes to Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and congratulated NTAS President G.S. Kakkar, the Sabharwals, and the entire team on the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Garden Theatre Movement. He lauded NTAS’s six decades of socio-theatrical service and highlighted how Padma Shri Pran Sabharwal’s work has placed Patiala on both national and international cultural maps.

The plays presented during the event included:

  • “Lakhi Shah Vanjara” – based on the supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji

  • “Kirat Da Satkar” by Dr. Harcharan Singh

  • “Jungal As Yatha Raja Tatha Praja” by Gurcharan Singh Jasuja

  • “Yudh Nashian Virudh” and “Swachhta Utsav” by Sunita Sabharwal, featuring five short plays on environmental themes

Each performance received thunderous applause from the audience.

NTAS also honoured distinguished guests with the Silver Jubilee Award of Honour, along with a memento, shawl, bouquet, and literary gift.

In his concluding remarks, Pran Sabharwal expressed heartfelt gratitude to all partners and supporters, particularly to Dr. S.P. Singh Oberoi and Dr. Preeti Yadav, IAS (Deputy Commissioner, Patiala), for their continuous support and guidance in making the event a grand success.
