Amanjot Kaur’s Absence a Major Challenge
One of the biggest concerns for the selectors was the unavailability of all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, who has been away from cricket for several months due to injury. Harmanpreet admitted replacing a player of Amanjot’s quality was difficult, but the team management has tried to maintain balance by recalling spinner and all-rounder Radha Yadav.
Bharti Fulmali Preferred Over Harleen Deol
The selection panel opted for a more attacking middle-order setup by choosing Bharti Fulmali ahead of Harleen Deol. Harmanpreet explained that Fulmali’s aggressive batting style makes her a better fit for the T20 format, while Harleen remains part of India’s long-term plans, especially in Test cricket.
Focus on Powerplay and Middle Overs
Reflecting on India’s recent tour of South Africa, Harmanpreet highlighted the importance of dominating the powerplay and controlling the middle overs in T20 cricket. She said the team has learned valuable lessons and is working on specific strategies ahead of the World Cup.
The Indian skipper also backed Jemimah Rodrigues, saying consistency in team selection is important and expressing confidence that the batter will continue to deliver crucial performances.
India will kick off their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan women’s national cricket team in Birmingham on June 14.
