Chandigarh, September 21
Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Harbhajan Singh Mundian announced today that the number of people staying in relief camps has decreased to just 229 due to continuous returns to homes by affected families. He added that the count of relief camps has also reduced from 35 to 16 in the last 24 hours.
The Cabinet Minister stated that 665 more individuals returned to their homes today, compared to 894 who were sheltered in camps until yesterday.

He informed that the number of affected villages has increased from 2,539 to 2,555, primarily including villages from Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana districts. In Hoshiarpur, 11 more villages have been impacted, bringing the total to 350, while in Ludhiana, 5 additional villages affected have raised the district’s count to 131. Consequently, the affected population in Hoshiarpur has risen from 3,89,387 to 3,89,445 with 58 more people impacted.
The Minister revealed that with the declining number of affected people, a large number of relief camps have been closed. Districts like Moga, Pathankot, and Jalandhar have shut down all their camps, while in Fazilka, the number of sheltered individuals dropped from 620 to 219. In Jalandhar, all 103 people staying in camps yesterday have returned home today.
He further shared that crop damage in Mansa and Hoshiarpur has increased to 121 and 39 hectares respectively, raising the total affected crop area from 1,99,766 hectares to 1,99,926 hectares. However, most districts report stable conditions with no major changes observed elsewhere.
