–Government mandates swift resolution of NRI issues by civil and police officials.
Chandigarh, December 26
Punjab has become the first Indian state to offer online resolution of grievances for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Punjabis. This new online complaint registration system, launched in December 2024, allows NRIs to file complaints regarding any matter related to Punjab. The Punjab government has prioritized addressing NRI concerns since taking office.
In 2024, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directives, four “NRI Milni” (NRI meetings) were held in February, resulting in the resolution of numerous complaints.

The “Online NRI Milni,” a unique initiative by the Punjab government’s NRI Department, enables overseas Punjabis to directly raise their issues with the departmental minister, senior officers, and senior police officers of the NRI wing.
These online meetings, held in the first week of every month, aim for immediate resolution of complaints. Most complaints pertain to the Revenue and Police Departments, with approximately 20% already under judicial review. For district-level complaints, concerned civil and police officers are contacted directly via telephone to ensure swift action.
NRI Affairs Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated that the Punjab government has instructed all District Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to prioritize the resolution of NRI complaints. At the district level, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioners, various departments collaborate to resolve these issues.
