State Trials Conclude: Punjab’s MTB Talent Shines

-Over 74 Cyclists from Across Punjab Shine in Time Trials – Strong Team Gearing Up for Nationals in Arunachal Pradesh

The Ad-hoc Committee of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) successfully wrapped up the Punjab State Selection Trials for the National Mountain Terrain Bike (MTB) Championship on January 29 at the scenic Jago-Akal Academy Road, Village Kalwan, near Jyoti City, Patiala.

Under the expert supervision of Dr. Dharminder Lamba (President Commissaires Panel member), more than 74 enthusiastic cyclists from districts including Ludhiana, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, Bathinda, and Amritsar competed fiercely in various age-group categories. Performances were rigorously evaluated through time trials, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process in line with CFI standards.

The trials highlighted Punjab’s growing talent pool in mountain biking, with top performers earning spots on the state team set to compete at the 22nd Senior, Junior & Sub-Junior National MTB Championships (scheduled for February 10–14/12–15, 2026, in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh).

  • Men Elite: 1st – Mohammad Nasiru (Ludhiana)
  • Men Under-23: 1st – Yuvraj Singh (Patiala), 2nd – Amit Singh (Ludhiana), 3rd – Jasdeep Singh (Amritsar)
  • Men Junior: 1st – Soheil Ahmed (Ludhiana), 2nd – Abhay Pratap Singh (Mohali), 3rd – Karmanpreet Singh (Patiala)
  • Women Elite: 1st – Damandeep Kaur (Mohali), 2nd – Manrozdeep Kaur Pannu (Amritsar)
  • Women Junior: 1st – Ankita (Ludhiana), 2nd – Balpreet Kaur (Ludhiana)
  • Youth Boys: 1st – Vishwajeet Singh Pannu (Amritsar), 2nd – Priyanshu Maurya (Ludhiana), 3rd – Prabhjot Singh (Sangrur)
  • Sub-Junior Boys: 1st – Eakmajit Singh Shahi (Patiala), 2nd – Gurtaran Singh (Patiala), 3rd – Sumer (Bathinda)
  • Sub-Junior Girls: 1st – Anshika (Ludhiana), 2nd – Preeti (Ludhiana), 3rd – Neha Kumari (Ludhiana)

Shailendra Pathak, Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee (Cycling Punjab) and Joint Secretary, CFI, praised the participants’ enthusiasm and the impartial conduct by committee members and experienced coaches. All safety protocols were strictly followed, with full arrangements in place for athletes.

The selected riders will now receive advanced training and guidance to make Punjab a formidable force at the nationals. The committee thanked the District Administration, Patiala, athletes, coaches, parents, supporters, and special contributor Inspector Balwinder Singh for their role in the event.

Key Ad-hoc Committee members present included Manish Sahni, Technical Official Rajwinder Kaur, Shrenu, Sandeep Kaur, Bhupinder Singh, along with a large gathering of district cyclists, coaches, and spectators.
