Key Discussions and Demands
The meeting focused on addressing critical issues faced by the families of the martyrs. Key points raised included:
- Compensation and Jobs: A strong appeal was made to the Punjab government to provide compensation and employment opportunities to families of the martyrs who have been deprived of their rightful dues.
- Typing Test Exemption: Families demanded an exemption from the typing test for individuals who secured jobs under the ‘C’ category on compassionate grounds. It was noted that such exemptions have already been granted to spouses of the deceased, as per Punjab Government Personnel Department instructions (Letter No. 21/62/2010-3PP2/1401 dated 23-12-2011). The meeting urged the government to extend this exemption to other family members, citing a precedent where a 120-hour typing training program by a government institute (e.g., Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab – MGSPA) was provided, followed by an exemption from the typing test.
- Job Transfer Requests: Some individuals who received jobs on compassionate grounds were posted far from their residences, causing hardships. The meeting appealed to the government to transfer these individuals to locations closer to their homes to alleviate their difficulties.
- Additional Benefits: The families requested that all benefits previously provided to employees under compassionate appointments, including the 120-hour training and certification from MGSPA, be extended to them, alongside the typing test exemption.
A Call for Justice and Support
The meeting underscored the need for the government to honor the sacrifices of the martyred farmers and workers by ensuring their families receive the support they deserve. The demands for compensation, employment, and procedural relaxations reflect the broader struggle for justice and recognition of the contributions made by these families during the historic protests.
