ASI Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹33,500 Bribe: Vigilance Bureau Action

Chandigarh, April 21
Continuing its crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector Harpal Singh, posted at Jaito police station in Faridkot district, for accepting a bribe of ₹33,500.

According to an official spokesperson, the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of Jaito tehsil. The complainant alleged that a case under the NDPS Act had been registered against her husband and mother-in-law, in which ASI Harpal Singh was the investigating officer.

The accused officer reportedly demanded ₹2 lakh to provide relief in the case and to avoid police remand. After negotiations, the amount was settled at ₹80,000, of which ₹40,000 had already been paid as the first installment.

Refusing to pay any further bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Unit in Faridkot. After a preliminary inquiry, the VB team set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting ₹33,500 in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Ferozepur. Further investigation is currently underway.
