JGND PSOU Explores Guru Ravidas Ji’s Vision of Equality and Humanity”

Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU) inaugurated a two-day National Seminar titled “Revisiting the Socio-Philosophical Thought of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji” to commemorate the 650th Birth Anniversary of Guru Ravidas Ji. The seminar was organised under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rattan Singh at the university campus.

Renowned philanthropist Dr. SP Singh Oberoi, Founder and Chairman of Sarbat Da Bhala Trust, graced the inaugural session as Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included Prof. Ronki Ram, Professor Emeritus at the Institute for Development and Communication, Chandigarh; Dr. Ghambir Singh Chauhan; and Prof. Sarabjinder Singh.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Rattan Singh highlighted Guru Ravidas Ji’s vision of an egalitarian society, famously described as “Begampura.” He reiterated the university’s commitment to promoting social equality and human dignity through inclusive education and academic engagement.

Dr. SP Singh Oberoi spoke about the central theme of humanity in Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings and reaffirmed his organisation’s dedication to service. In a notable announcement, he pledged a grant of ₹51 lakh to the university, appreciating its efforts in spreading the Guru’s message.

Prof. Sarabjinder Singh reflected on the spiritual depth of Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings, while also acknowledging the timeless relevance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Ravidas Ji. Dr. Ghambir Singh Chauhan emphasized the Guru’s vision of equality, highlighting the important role of women in shaping a just and ethical society.

Prof. Ronki Ram delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the socio-political influence of Guru Ravidas Ji, particularly focusing on the concept of Kirat (honest labour) as the foundation of a fair society. Registrar Prof. Baljit Singh Khehra welcomed the participants and stressed the seminar’s role in reconnecting youth with Punjab’s spiritual heritage.
