Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten has unexpectedly stepped down as the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team’s white-ball formats. His resignation comes just six months after taking on the role.
The PCB announced the news on October 25th, stating that Test coach Jason Gillespie will take over the reins for the upcoming tour of Australia. The reason behind Kirsten’s decision has not been officially disclosed.
Kirsten’s tenure as Pakistan’s white-ball coach began in April 2024. His primary goal was to guide the team to success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which unfortunately ended in early elimination.

Despite the short tenure, Kirsten’s departure has raised questions about the stability within the Pakistan Cricket Board. The team is now set to face Australia in a crucial white-ball series, followed by a tour of Zimbabwe.
