Vengeful Budget Towards Punjab; Focus Only to Save Lame Government: Aman Arora

BJP Acts Vindictive Against Punjab as it Failed to Win Even a Single Seat in Parliamentary Polls
Silence on MSP is a Cruel Joke with ‘Annadata’
Chandigarh, July 23
Calling the Union Budget vengeful towards Punjab and its farmers, Punjab’s Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training Minister Mr. Aman Arora criticized the BJP-led Central Government for its apparent vindictiveness. He noted that the BJP failed to win even a single seat in Punjab during the recent Parliamentary polls, and the budget reflects this failure by neglecting the state. According to Arora, the Modi government is more focused on targeting opposition-ruled states rather than addressing pressing national issues.
During a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Mr. Arora highlighted that Punjab, known as the Granary of India, has been overlooked in the budget. He mentioned that while other states governed by BJP allies, such as Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, received financial support, Punjab received nothing for agriculture, rural and urban development. This, he suggested, was an attempt to bolster the “lame government.”
Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann had sought Rs 1,32,247 crores from the Finance Commission to drive the state’s development. However, Arora pointed out that the Union Budget ignored this request, providing no special grants for disaster management, crop diversification, industry, or MSMEs in Punjab. He condemned the budget as a betrayal of the “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” slogan, criticizing the central government’s inability to address significant issues. According to Arora, the budget offers little for women, farmers, youth, or the poor.

Farmers have been demanding legal guarantees for their produce, but the central government failed to address the Minimum Support Price (MSP) issue. Furthermore, the fertilizer subsidy was reduced, adding to the farmers’ burden. Arora described this as a cruel joke on hardworking farmers. He also criticized the vague promises about farmer credit cards in five states, which leaves farmers uncertain about their future.
Arora highlighted the BJP’s unfulfilled promise of two crore jobs for youth each year, noting the severe unemployment among the youth. He urged the government to terminate the controversial Agniveer scheme and reinstate the traditional army recruitment process, which has been ignored.
He remarked that the budget’s failure was evident as the stock market plummeted following its announcement, indicating widespread discontent. Arora concluded by criticizing the government’s preference for temporary fixes over a comprehensive, long-term vision for the nation.
