Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for sacrilege incidents face exemplary punishment. During a session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mann disclosed that significant leads have been made in the investigation, and a fresh report is being prepared to ensure the culprits are brought to justice. This report is currently undergoing legal review to prevent any escape from accountability.
Mann criticized previous governments for their lax approach to this sensitive issue, which has allowed the perpetrators to remain free. He emphasized his government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring that those guilty of sacrilege are held accountable and face severe consequences.

Addressing broader governance issues, the Chief Minister contrasted his administration’s approach with that of the Union government, which he accused of implementing policies without proper consultation. In contrast, Mann stated that the Punjab government is developing a new agriculture policy after thorough consultation with all stakeholders. The state has already successfully implemented an industrial policy following discussions with industry leaders, and plans are underway to establish an Industrial Advisory Commission.
Mann also announced that upcoming Panchayat elections in Punjab will be held without party symbols to reduce factionalism and promote rural development. He further pledged a grant of ₹5 lakh to any village that unanimously elects its panchayat, alongside support for building essential facilities like schools, hospitals, or stadiums.
Highlighting financial reforms, the Chief Minister noted the success of the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for pending VAT cases, which generated ₹164 crore more than in previous years. He criticized the previous regimes’ OTS schemes as ineffective and vowed to introduce more impactful OTS initiatives.
In a move towards gender inclusivity, Mann shared that the Punjab government has passed the Fire and Emergency Service Bill, enabling women to join the firefighting staff. This bill, he said, represents a historic step towards empowering women and ensuring their active participation in the state’s socio-economic growth. Additionally, amendments are being made to recruitment rules to accommodate women in the fire services, making Punjab the first state in India to recruit female firefighters.

Lastly, Mann took aim at BJP leaders, specifically challenging MLA Sandeep Jakhar to question his uncle, state BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar, about the facts before making public statements. Mann refuted claims about delays in the supply of DAP fertilizer, asserting that the issue was resolved after discussions with Union Minister JP Nadda. He condemned the BJP’s comments as baseless and irresponsible.
