Chandigarh, September 30
In line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision for a safe and secure Punjab, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav chaired a state-level virtual Law and Order Meeting on Tuesday, addressing all Range DIGs, CPs/SSPs, SPs/DSPs, and Station House Officers (SHOs). The meeting focused on intensifying action against organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism while ensuring public safety during the 2025 festive season. Senior officers, including ADGP Anti-Gangster Task Force Promod Ban and ADGP Counter Intelligence Amit Prasad, also attended.
Key Directives for Festive Season Safety
DGP Yadav urged officers to remain vigilant and proactive to maintain peace, harmony, and citizen safety during the festive period. He granted full authority to crack down fearlessly on gangsters and anti-social elements, emphasizing accountability at all levels, from Constables to SSPs. “No laxity will be tolerated in tackling gangsters and drugs,” he warned, reinforcing the Punjab Police’s commitment to a secure state.
Anti-Drug Campaign Success
The DGP commended the force’s efforts under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” anti-drugs campaign, which achieved an impressive 87% conviction rate in NDPS cases. He stressed the importance of professional investigations to trace backward and forward linkages, targeting the “big fish” in drug networks. Seized mobile phones of key suppliers must undergo forensic analysis to uncover supply chains and enable further arrests. He also highlighted Section 64A of the NDPS Act, encouraging its use to offer rehabilitation to drug consumers caught with small quantities of narcotics.
The Safe Punjab Anti-Drugs Chatbot was praised for its 33-35% FIR conversion rate, with Yadav urging officers to treat public inputs seriously and develop actionable intelligence from them.

Addressing Staff Shortages
To address manpower shortages, DGP Yadav announced that the Punjab Government has created 1,600 promotional posts, including 150 Inspectors, 450 Sub-Inspectors, and 1,000 Assistant Sub-Inspectors. Additionally, 3,400 Constable posts will be filled through direct recruitment in 2026, and 4,500 district cadre posts will be phased in. He directed CPs/SSPs to conduct resource audits and deploy regular Head Constables to police stations to ease the workload, particularly in NDPS cases. “Manpower gaps will be addressed over time,” he assured.
Crackdown on Organized Crime
Reviewing the organized crime scenario, the DGP instructed officers to identify and arrest gangster associates, assuring them of full departmental support. “Deal with gangsters fearlessly,” he reiterated, emphasizing a proactive approach to dismantle criminal networks.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption
DGP Yadav underscored the Punjab Government’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, warning that exemplary action would be taken against any officer, regardless of rank, found involved in corrupt practices.
Citizen-Centric Policing
Emphasizing a people-first approach, the DGP directed officers to be accessible, meet citizens in their offices, and respond promptly to grievances. “Delivering justice to the people is our primary goal,” he stated, reinforcing the Punjab Police’s commitment to citizen-centric policing.
Interactive Session
During the meeting, DGP Yadav engaged directly with SSPs, SPs/DSPs, and SHOs, gathering field-level insights and experiences to refine strategies and enhance operational effectiveness.
