In its ongoing campaign against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested Patwari Ram Singh, posted at Patwar Circle Badala, Tehsil Dasuya, District Hoshiarpur, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 from the complainant for processing the mutation of the complainant’s ancestral land located in village Badala, Tehsil Dasuya, District Hoshiarpur.
Disclosing the details here today, an official spokesperson of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau stated that the complainant, a resident of Chintpurni Road, Hoshiarpur, had approached the Bureau with a grievance. He reported that following the death of his father, he had submitted an application for mutation of the ancestral property in village Badala, Tehsil Dasuya, at the Sewa Kendra in Dasuya.

The complainant further alleged that the accused Patwari initially informed him that the official fee for the process was ₹1,200. However, the Patwari later demanded an illegal gratification of ₹8,000 to complete the mutation. The complainant secretly recorded this conversation.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau recorded the complainant’s statement at its Jalandhar Unit. After preliminary verification of the facts, a trap was laid, and the accused Patwari was caught red-handed accepting the bribe amount of ₹8,000 from the complainant in the presence of two independent official witnesses.
A case under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Jalandhar Range. The accused will be produced before the competent court tomorrow, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
