-‘Punjab Has Given Nation Its Bravest Soldiers & Finest Leaders’: CM Welcomes NDC Delegation, Emphasizes Role in National Unity, Security & Food Security
Chandigarh, February 2
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today warmly welcomed a high-level delegation from the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, currently on a socio-political study tour of the state, and proudly underscored Punjab’s unparalleled contributions to India’s unity, sovereignty, defence, and food security.
Interacting with the 16-member delegation at his official residence here, CM Mann described Punjab as the “sword arm and food bowl of India”, a land of braveheart soldiers, hardworking farmers, great Gurus, saints, martyrs, and unmatched communal harmony.
Key highlights from CM Mann’s address:
- Sacrifices for the Nation: “Punjab has always led from the front in sacrifices for the country’s unity and sovereignty. Punjabis made the maximum contributions during the freedom struggle and continue to do so. Our brave soldiers guard the borders, while our farmers keep the nation’s granaries full – 40% of India’s food grains come from Punjab.”
- Military Legacy: Punjab has produced distinguished military leaders and countless brave soldiers who have made supreme sacrifices. The state remains the frontline defender of India’s integrity.
- Communal Harmony & Secularism: Despite sharing a 532-km international border with a hostile neighbour, Punjab has never been divided on sectarian lines. It stands as a global example of peace, mutual love, and coexistence. Amritsar, home to sacred sites like Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Durgiana Mandir, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, and Jallianwala Bagh, symbolizes all-inclusive harmony.
- Farmers’ Role: Punjab’s farmers ensure national food security through relentless hard work, even as the state faces groundwater depletion and other challenges.
The Chief Minister welcomed the delegation’s week-long visit (February 2–6, 2026), aimed at understanding Punjab’s social, economic, political, cultural, and religious landscape. He noted that the tour provides valuable insights into grassroots governance, law and order, administration, and implementation of policies from the state to village level.
Delegation Composition:
- Total: 16 officers
- Foreign officers: 5 (31% representation) – one each from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nepal
