Punjab Vigilance Bureau Catches PSPCL Junior Engineer Red-Handed Accepting ₹14,000 Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Junior Engineer Lakhvir Singh (also referred to as Lakhbir Singh), posted at the PSPCL office in Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹14,000.
An official spokesperson for the Punjab Vigilance Bureau disclosed today that the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda district.
According to the complaint, the complainant’s son accidentally struck an electric pole on the street while parking his vehicle, causing damage to both the vehicle and the pole. Assistant Lineman (ALM) Resham Singh and Junior Engineer Lakhvir Singh arrived at the scene and threatened to seize the vehicle. They demanded a bribe of ₹25,000 to settle the matter and avoid any further action.
After negotiation at the complainant’s request, the officials agreed to accept ₹15,000 instead. The complainant secretly recorded the entire conversation in which the accused demanded illegal gratification.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Bathinda range office. Following a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, the VB team laid a trap. During the operation, Junior Engineer Lakhvir Singh was caught red-handed accepting ₹14,000 in bribe money from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Bathinda. The co-accused, Resham Singh (ALM), is expected to be arrested soon, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
