Vigilance Bureau’s Bold Move Against Corruption

• Arrest made in Amritsar after trap laid on corruption complaint

Chandigarh, October 31

In a major crackdown on corruption, Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested Lalit Arora, a resident of Chheharta, Amritsar, red-handed while accepting a ₹5 lakh bribe on behalf of the Station House Officer (SHO), Chheharta police station.

The Trap: A local resident lodged a complaint alleging that the SHO and his team raided his house, falsely implicated him and his cousin in a drug trafficking case, and seized his car claiming drugs were recovered.

The complainant approached Lalit Arora (known to the SHO) for help. Arora demanded ₹25 lakh to ensure no FIR was registered. When the complainant said he could only arrange ₹5 lakh immediately, Arora agreed to accept it as part payment.

VB Swift Action: After verifying the complaint, VB’s Amritsar Range team laid a trap and nabbed Arora red-handed accepting the bribe in front of two independent witnesses.

Legal Action:

  • FIR registered under Prevention of Corruption Act at VB Police Station, Amritsar Range
  • Accused to be produced in court on Saturday (November 1)
  • Investigation ongoing – SHO’s role under scanner
