Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Mann today inaugurated the first phase of Census 2027—“House Listing and Enumeration of Houses”—from his native village Satoz in Sangrur district. Marking a major step towards digital inclusion, the Chief Minister completed his self-enumeration through the official online census portal, encouraging citizens to adopt the digital process.
The process was facilitated by senior officials, including Administrative Secretary of the Local Government Department, Manjit Singh Brar (IAS), Director Census Operations Punjab and UT Chandigarh, Dr. Navjot Khosa (IAS), along with Deputy Commissioner Sangrur, Rahul Chaba (IAS).
By personally participating in the self-enumeration process, the Chief Minister highlighted the accessibility, transparency, and citizen-friendly nature of the initiative. He urged the residents of Punjab to actively take part in the census and provide accurate information to strengthen the database for Census 2027.

He appealed to citizens to make maximum use of the self-enumeration facility available from April 30 to May 14, 2026. He emphasized that accurate census data is essential for effective governance, planning, infrastructure development, and fair distribution of resources.
The Chief Minister noted that self-enumeration is a key feature of Census 2027, allowing individuals to conveniently submit their demographic and socio-economic details online. This digital initiative will improve efficiency, ensure data accuracy, and reduce dependency on manual processes while strengthening the national database.
Dr. Navjot Khosa highlighted that the Chief Minister’s participation would boost public confidence and encourage wider involvement across both urban and rural areas.
The first phase of Census 2027 will continue with a door-to-door survey from May 15 to June 13, 2026. During this period, officials will collect detailed information through 33 questions related to housing conditions, amenities, and assets, ensuring that every household is covered under this important national exercise.
