Historic Moment: Rural Students Beat Urban in Punjab Class 10th Exams; Jaito’s Harleen Bags Top Spot

In a proud moment for Punjab’s education sector, rural students have outperformed their urban counterparts in the Class 10th board examinations, delivering a strong endorsement of the Punjab government’s education reforms.
Announcing the results, Education Minister Harjot Bains said that as many as 2,54,744 students cleared the exams out of 2,69,505 who appeared, registering an impressive overall pass percentage of 94.52%.
State Toppers:
- Harleen Sharma of Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Jaito (Faridkot) secured the top position in Punjab with 646 out of 650 marks (99.38%).
- Manimahesh Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Chanauli Bassi (Rupnagar) bagged second position with 645/650 (99.23%).
- Riya Rani of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Model Town, Hoshiarpur secured third position with 645/650 (99.23%).
Highlighting the historic trend, Bains noted that rural students achieved a pass percentage of 95.35%, significantly higher than the 92.98% recorded in urban areas.

Out of 1,74,958 rural students who appeared, 1,66,830 passed. In urban areas, 87,914 students cleared the exam out of 94,547 who appeared.
The Education Minister extended his heartiest congratulations to all successful students and wished them bright futures. He described the results as a clear success of the state government’s ‘Sikhya Kranti’ initiative and credited the improved performance to focused investments in school infrastructure, regular teacher training, and equitable access to quality education.
“This is not just a result; it is proof that our government believes in creating opportunities for all, not just privileges for a few,” said Bains.
