The complainant had approached Patwari Ankur Kataria to obtain a 30-year ownership/revenue record of her house, which was required for securing a bank loan. The Patwari allegedly directed her to contact an intermediary, Raja.
The agent allegedly demanded ₹5,000 as illegal gratification for providing the required revenue record. He allegedly accepted ₹1,000 as the first instalment and agreed to collect the remaining ₹4,000 at the time of handing over the 30-year revenue record.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Range, Ludhiana.
Acting on her complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap. During the operation, Patwari Ankur Kataria and his alleged agent Raja were caught red-handed while accepting ₹4,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
The Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against both accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Ludhiana. Further investigation into the case is underway.
