DGP Gaurav Yadav Inaugurates National Equestrian Championship-2025 (Tent Pegging) in Jalandhar

-Punjab Police Hosts Prestigious Event, Showcasing Skill, Discipline, and Tradition Under the Aegis of the Equestrian Federation of India
Chandigarh/Jalandhar, February 15 –
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav , inaugurated the National Equestrian Championship-2025 (Tent Pegging) at the PAP Campus in Jalandhar on Saturday. Organized by Punjab Police under the aegis of the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) , this prestigious event has brought together 15 teams, 125 horses, and top riders from across the country, including participants from state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Army, Navy, and private clubs.
The championship, which celebrates skill, discipline, and tradition, will conclude on February 23 , with intense competition among participants vying for the coveted title.
A Celebration of Equestrian Excellence
In a post on his X handle (formerly Twitter), DGP Gaurav Yadav expressed pride in Punjab Police’s role as the host of this esteemed event.
“Punjab Police is proud to host this prestigious event under the aegis of the Equestrian Federation of India, bringing together 15 teams, 125 horses, and top riders from across the country—including Police Forces, CAPFs, Army, Navy, and private clubs,” he stated.
Highlighting the participation of Punjab Police’s own 20-member equestrian team , led by DIG Administration PAP Inderbir Singh , the DGP noted that the team is competing with 24 horses . This year marks a historic milestone as it is the first time an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has qualified in the national qualifiers and is participating in the National Equestrian Championship.
“This championship is a celebration of skill, discipline, and tradition, and I am especially proud to witness an IPS officer competing for the first time after qualifying at the national level,” the DGP added.
International Jury and Global Participation
To ensure fairness and uphold international standards, the Equestrian Federation of India, New Delhi has appointed international jury members to oversee and judge the events during the championship. Additionally, 15 to 20 international players from various teams are participating, adding a global dimension to the competition.
Notably, the championship will serve as a platform to select the Indian team for upcoming international competitions scheduled for 2025-26 . Riders who excel in this tournament will have the opportunity to represent India on the global stage.

Invitation to the Public
As the Chief Patron of the National Equestrian Championship, DGP Gaurav Yadav extended an open invitation to the public and horse enthusiasts to witness the spectacular event.
“There is no separate ticket required to watch the championship. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy this unique display of equestrian talent,” he said.
Event Details and Organizing Committee
A total of 125 riders , accompanied by their horses, are participating in the championship, making it one of the largest gatherings of equestrian talent in recent years. The event is being held under the aegis of the Equestrian Federation of India and has previously been conducted twice—at the same venue in 2016 and 2017 .

- Commandant Gurtejinder Singh (7th Battalion PAP) as Show Secretary
