Former World No.1 T20I batter Dawid Malan has announced his retirement from international cricket. The 36-year-old last represented England at the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Malan played a total of 114 matches for England across all formats, scoring 4,416 runs at an average of 37.74. He hit eight centuries and 31 half-centuries during his career.
Malan first made his mark on the international stage with a standout 44-ball 78 against South Africa in his T20I debut in June 2017. He quickly established himself as a key player in England’s T20I side and became the fastest men’s player to reach 1000 runs in Test cricket.

Malan also holds the distinction of achieving a peak rating of 915 in the ICC T20I Player Rankings for batting – the highest by any batter in the history of the game. He was a vital member of England’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2022 but was unfortunately sidelined for the knockout stages due to injury.
In ODIs, Malan enjoyed significant success, scoring five centuries in just 15 innings leading up to the 2023 World Cup. He continued his impressive form in the tournament, scoring a century against Bangladesh. Despite his efforts, England were eliminated in the group stages.
Speaking about his retirement, Malan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent England and acknowledged the challenges of maintaining a high level of performance in international cricket.
