Chandigarh, February 3:

The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has disbursed a total of ₹3,368.89 crore in pension benefits to 22.68 lakh elderly beneficiaries across the state till December 2024, reaffirming its commitment to social welfare.

Providing further details, Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the Punjab Government is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of all sections of society, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, widows, destitute women, and dependent children. She highlighted that Punjab has a total of 34 lakh beneficiaries covered under various pension schemes.

Dr. Baljit Kaur revealed that ₹3,368.89 crore has been distributed to 22.68 lakh elderly beneficiaries till December 2024 as part of the government’s pension initiatives. She further stated that the Punjab Government has earmarked ₹5,924.50 crore for various pension schemes, out of which ₹4,000 crore has been allocated specifically for old-age pensions in the current financial year.

Eligibility and Direct Bank Transfers

The Cabinet Minister explained that individuals aged 65 years and above, as well as women aged 58 years and above, with an annual income not exceeding ₹60,000, are eligible for this pension scheme. She emphasized that financial assistance is directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the disbursement process.

Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that the Punjab Government is consistently working towards the welfare of the elderly, adding that statewide health surveys focused on elderly citizens are also being conducted to assess and address their healthcare needs. She assured that the government remains committed to strengthening social security measures to support vulnerable sections of society.
