School Principal Arrested for Demanding Bribe to Issue Matric Certificate in Ludhiana
Vigilance Bureau Nabs School Principal Red-Handed Accepting ₹6,000 Bribe in Ludhiana
Chandigarh, April 16, 2026: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Gurmeet Singh, Principal of Camp Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Ajitsar Mohi, Ludhiana (a government-aided school), red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹6,000.
According to a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the accused was caught based on a complaint lodged by a resident of village Mohi, Ludhiana district.
The complainant had passed Class 10 during the COVID-19 period but had not received his passing certificate. He applied for a duplicate certificate online, but it was also not issued. When he approached the school Principal for help, the accused demanded a bribe of ₹15,800 for issuing the certificate. The Principal had already taken ₹10,000 as the first instalment. Notably, the official government fee for a duplicate matric certificate is only ₹900, while the Tatkal fee is ₹2,000.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana. After a preliminary enquiry, the VB team laid a trap and arrested Principal Gurmeet Singh red-handed while he was accepting the remaining ₹6,000 bribe money in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana. Further investigation is underway.
