Chandigarh, April 16,
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Patwari Harkinder Singh, posted at the Revenue Office in Payal, Ludhiana district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.
According to a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the accused was caught based on a complaint filed by a resident of Tehsil Payal, Ludhiana.
The spokesperson revealed that Patwari Harkinder Singh had demanded ₹25,000 as a bribe from the complainant for making corrections in the mutation of his land. The accused had already received the first instalment of ₹5,000 as bribe money.

When the complainant refused to pay the illegal gratification, he approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Economic Offence Wing, Ludhiana. After verifying the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and arrested the Patwari red-handed while he was accepting the remaining ₹15,000 bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Economic Offence Wing, Ludhiana. Further investigation is underway.
