-Reiterates Stance on Water Sharing and Youth Empowerment

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday reiterated the state’s firm stance on water sharing issues while dedicating the newly constructed SDM Complex in Bhawanigarh. Addressing media persons during the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that Punjab has no surplus water to share with any other state and categorically stated that the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal will never see the light of day, as the state government is committed to safeguarding Punjab’s interests.
No Room for Water Sharing, Calls for Fresh Assessment
Mann stressed that Punjab does not have a single drop of water to spare, given the grim groundwater situation and the drying up of most river resources in the state. He highlighted that many blocks in Punjab are over-exploited, necessitating a reassessment of water availability as per international norms. The Chief Minister revealed that he had recently urged the Ravi-Beas Tribunal , currently visiting the state for an assessment of the Ravi water system, to deliver justice to Punjab by conducting a fresh evaluation of water

“Punjab is already grappling with a severe water crisis. Our farmers, who feed the nation, are struggling with scarce water resources. In such a scenario, there is no question of sharing even a drop of water with other states,” Mann asserted.
Criticism of Political Opponents and Zero Tolerance Policy
Responding to queries about political theatrics by Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu , the Chief Minister dismissed such tactics as futile. “Rejected leaders like Bittu may dream of occupying the Chief Minister’s residence with their antics, but this house belongs to the people who elect their leaders. The masses will never accept such individuals due to their dubious character,” Mann remarked.
He further emphasized that the state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against scams, extortion, and corruption. “The law will take its course in such cases, and we will not bow to any pressure,” he said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Empowering Punjab’s Youth
Addressing concerns about the recent deportation of Punjabi youth from the USA, Mann described it as a wake-up call for the state’s younger generation. He urged them to focus on opportunities within Punjab rather than seeking greener pastures abroad.
“The state government is providing numerous opportunities for our youth to excel in various fields. Over 51,000 youth have secured government jobs in the past year through hard work and dedication,” Mann said. He added that reverse migration has begun, with many Punjabis returning from abroad to join government services. Recently, a couple returned from Canada to take up government jobs in Punjab, setting an inspiring example for others.
The Chief Minister assured full support for those deported, stating that the government would facilitate their rehabilitation and integrate them into the socio-economic development of the state. “We are engaging successful entrepreneurs who have overcome similar challenges to mentor these individuals and help them start anew,” he added.
Crackdown on Illegal Agents and Drug Menace
Mann also announced stringent action against illegal travel agents responsible for duping innocent Indians and facilitating illegal migration. “Cases have already been filed against such agents, and exemplary punishment will be ensured to deter others from indulging in such activities,” he said.
On the issue of drug abuse, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy, holding police officers accountable for crimes in their jurisdictions. “The war against drugs is being transformed into a mass movement, with Panchayats playing a pivotal role in eradicating this menace,” Mann said.
Inauguration of Modern SDM Complex
During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated the new SDM office , constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore . Equipped with modern facilities, the building reflects the government’s vision of serving the public more efficiently.
“The previous governments neglected such initiatives, but we are constructing infrastructure that meets the future needs of the people,” Mann said, highlighting the importance of creating functional and accessible administrative spaces for citizens.
