Chandigarh/Amritsar, May 26, 2025

As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign Yudh Nashian Virudh, launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has dismantled an international drug-smuggling network operated by Canada-based smuggler Sonu. On Monday, three of his India-based operatives were arrested, and 2.5 kg of heroin along with ₹42 lakh in drug money were recovered, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

The arrested individuals are Ajaypal Singh alias Ajay from Sarai Amanat Khan, Tarn Taran; Hardeep Singh from Bhagatanwala, Amritsar; and Milap Singh from Alipur, Tarn Taran. Police also seized a black Hero Splendor motorcycle (PB02CY6917) and a white Toyota Fortuner car (HR26DY5140) used in the smuggling operations.

DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that CI Amritsar received credible intelligence about Sonu running a drug-smuggling racket with Punjab-based associates. The tip indicated that Ajaypal Singh and Hardeep Singh had recently collected a heroin consignment and were traveling on Link Road from Adda Khasa to Khurmanian to deliver it. Acting swiftly, CI Amritsar conducted a raid, apprehending both suspects and recovering 2.5 kg of heroin from their possession.
