CM Leads Thousands of Youth in Oath to Combat Drugs

“We Won’t Let Drug Peddlers Thrive on the Ashes of Victims,” Vows Bhagwant Mann

Ludhiana, April 2:

In a powerful move to eradicate the drug menace, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, alongside former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, launched a mass awareness campaign on Wednesday. The event saw thousands of youth taking an oath to fight against the drug problem, marking a significant step in this ongoing battle.

Addressing the gathering during a march aimed at raising awareness, CM Mann declared, “This is a decisive crusade against drugs, and we all pledge to rid the state of this curse.” He emphasized that the state government has had enough and will no longer tolerate drug smugglers prospering at the expense of victims’ lives. Mann highlighted that the supply chain of drugs has been disrupted, with major players in this crime now behind bars. For the first time, he noted, the government is confiscating and destroying illegally acquired properties of drug peddlers to deter others.

Mann pointed out that the drug issue has deeply infiltrated Punjab due to the negligence of previous administrations. However, he expressed gratitude for the guidance of Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, whose leadership has tackled numerous challenges in Delhi. With Kejriwal’s continued support, Mann envisioned a drug-free Punjab in the near future.

The Chief Minister stressed that the fight against drugs must evolve into a mass movement, involving not just the police but the entire civil society. He welcomed the growing public participation, noting that anti-drug resolutions are being adopted in several villages. To bolster this effort, the state government has introduced a WhatsApp helpline number, 9779100200, encouraging citizens to contribute to the cause.

Mann urged people to report any information about drug smugglers in their areas via the helpline, assuring that callers’ identities would remain confidential. He emphasized that public cooperation is crucial for the success of this ambitious campaign and called for widespread support.

Praising the Punjab Police’s legacy of sacrifice and service, Mann said the force has always protected the nation and its people beyond its core duty of maintaining law and order. Now, he added, the Punjab Police is at the forefront of eliminating the drug menace from the state.

Mann underscored the need for ordinary citizens to take an active role in this war. “The time has come for everyone to stand up against this scourge and crush the handful of smugglers destroying our generations for profit,” he said. He called on every Punjabi to become a soldier in this fight, ensuring the state becomes completely drug-free.
