Quality Control Drive : Seven Chief Agriculture Officers Issued Show Cause Notices for Underperformance
Chandigarh, June 27
Following directives from Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Khudian, the department has issued show cause notices (SCNs) to seven Chief Agriculture Officers (CAOs) for failing to meet targets in the ongoing quality control drive.
Details of the Action
The notices were issued a day after Minister Khudian ordered strict departmental action against districts lagging in the quality control initiative to ensure accountability and enhance performance. Dr. Basant Garg, Administrative Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, initiated action against CAOs in Kapurthala, Barnala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, and Hoshiarpur districts. The officers have been directed to respond within seven days, failing which they will face further disciplinary action as per regulations.

Zero-Tolerance Policy
Reaffirming the Punjab government’s zero-tolerance stance against negligence under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Minister Khudian emphasized that officials displaying a lackadaisical attitude or neglecting their duties will face strict consequences. “Accountability will be enforced, and no leniency will be shown toward underperformance,” he stated.
Measures to Protect Farmers
To safeguard farmers from exploitation, the Agriculture Department has formed five flying squad teams to conduct regular monitoring and inspection of agricultural inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Minister Khudian urged farmers to:
- Demand proper bills for all purchases of agricultural inputs.
- Immediately report dealers who refuse to provide bills or supply substandard inputs to their respective district agriculture offices.
Commitment to Quality
The quality control drive aims to ensure that farmers receive high-quality agricultural inputs to boost productivity and protect their interests. The issuance of SCNs underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards in the agriculture sector and holding officials accountable for their performance.
