Chandigarh, July 18
The Punjab State Legal Services Authority (PSLSA) successfully organised a Special Lok Adalat across Punjab today to facilitate the settlement of cases related to Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act, 1881.
The Special Lok Adalat was held under the patronage of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority.
The initiative aimed to make justice more accessible and witnessed enthusiastic participation from litigants, judicial officers, advocates, and other stakeholders. Besides providing speedy and amicable resolution of disputes, the Lok Adalat also played a significant role in reducing the pendency of cases before courts.
A total of 175 Lok Adalat benches were constituted across all districts and sub-divisions of Punjab. During the proceedings, 17,723 cases were taken up, out of which 4,871 cases were amicably settled. The Lok Adalat passed awards amounting to ₹130,89,99,050 (over ₹130.89 crore).
Through this Special Lok Adalat, thousands of litigants across the state were able to resolve disputes related to the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, in a swift and cost-effective manner. Several long-pending cases were also successfully settled.
