DHURI, 17 March
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a 50-bedded Sub-Divisional Hospital along with a dedicated 30-bedded Maternal and Child Health Block at Dhuri. This development marks a major step forward in strengthening Punjab’s public healthcare system and significantly enhances healthcare infrastructure in Sangrur district.
Speaking to the gathering, CM Mann said, “This project reflects our strong commitment to creating a robust, accessible, and patient-focused healthcare system. By upgrading infrastructure, expanding medical services, and ensuring the availability of skilled healthcare professionals, we are bringing modern healthcare closer to the people.”
He added, “Built at a cost of ₹21.65 crore, the hospital complex features a modern building spread over approximately 73,000 square feet. It will serve as a major boon for the region by delivering comprehensive secondary-level healthcare, including outpatient and inpatient services, emergency care, diagnostics, and specialist consultations.”
Highlighting the dual-purpose setup, the Chief Minister explained, “The 50-bedded Sub-Divisional Hospital will provide full secondary-level healthcare services, while the separate 30-bedded Mother and Child Health Block will greatly strengthen maternal, neonatal, and child healthcare, ensuring improved care for mothers and newborns in the area.”
Tracing the facility’s evolution, CM Mann noted, “Originally set up in 1978 with just 30 beds and later upgraded to 50 beds, this hospital has now been transformed into a state-of-the-art 80-bed facility, showcasing our government’s ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen public healthcare infrastructure.”

Detailing the new infrastructure, he said, “The hospital includes 13 OPD rooms, a fully equipped emergency block, two registration counters, and seven operation theatres for both major and minor surgeries. It is equipped with modern diagnostic facilities including ECG, ultrasound, and X-ray rooms, along with three laboratories for prompt and accurate testing.”
He further added, “The complex features 12 private rooms, six general wards, a fully functional drug store, an SMO office, 11 nurse stations, and two lifts — all designed to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. This upgraded setup will allow doctors to manage emergency cases, accident victims, and critical patients more effectively.”
Emphasizing the range of services, the Chief Minister said, “The hospital will offer advanced procedures, including surgical interventions and knee replacement surgeries. Specialist doctors, especially in ENT (ear, nose, and throat), will be available to provide expert treatment.”
Focusing on maternal and child health, CM Mann stated, “The dedicated Mother and Child Hospital will offer both normal and cesarean deliveries under the supervision of qualified gynecologists, ensuring safer outcomes for mothers and newborns.”

He added, “All essential treatments and diagnostic tests for mothers and children will be provided completely free of cost, so no family faces financial barriers to healthcare. ESI dispensary services will also continue for workers under the hospital.”
Highlighting wider healthcare reforms under the AAP government, the Chief Minister said, “We have recruited more than 1,500 doctors in hospitals — including over 600 specialists and more than 900 general doctors — along with over 800 doctors in Aam Aadmi Clinics. This has dramatically improved the availability of medical professionals across government health facilities.”
He continued, “We have strengthened secondary healthcare infrastructure and expanded the Aam Aadmi Clinics network to bring essential services closer to communities. Procurement of free medicines and modern medical equipment worth over ₹300 crore has further enhanced service delivery.”
On financial protection, CM Mann said, “Through the Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana, every family receives health coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per year, ensuring access to quality treatment without financial burden.”
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, the Chief Minister concluded, “This new facility will directly benefit over 58,000 residents of Dhuri and thousands more from surrounding areas. We remain fully committed to ensuring that every citizen of Punjab has access to high-quality healthcare services.”
