Government Mahindra College, Patiala, celebrated its 149th Annual Sports Festival with immense zeal and energy on its sprawling grounds. The event served as a vibrant tribute to the college’s rich legacy and its ongoing journey toward completing 150 glorious years.
The day commenced with a impressive inaugural ceremony. Chief Guest Palwinder Singh Cheema hoisted the college flag and received the salute from the marching contingents of NCC, NSS, and the Physical Education Department. In his motivational address, he highlighted the vital role of sports in building character, instilling discipline, and achieving academic excellence, urging students to pursue both with dedication.
Students from all departments enthusiastically participated in a wide range of track and field events. The athletic competitions showcased remarkable physical talent, thrilling spectators with displays of speed, strength, and agility. Winners were felicitated with prizes and certificates by the college faculty.
The closing ceremony featured Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu as the Chief Guest. He distributed prizes to the winners of various events and praised the college for its storied heritage and consistent contribution to producing national-level sports talent. He emphasized that such festivals play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing future champions.
The entire event was meticulously organized by the Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students, with the Department of Physical Education providing key support. Principal Prof. Dr. Nishtha Tripathi extended heartfelt thanks to the distinguished guests and reaffirmed that Mahindra College has always maintained an exemplary balance between academic excellence and physical education. A special highlight was the introduction of staff competitions for the first time. Around 25 professors enthusiastically took part in the Lemon Race, with:
