Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced on Tuesday that the state government has achieved a significant milestone by providing 44,250 government jobs to the youth of Punjab within just 872 days of its tenure. This equates to an average of 51 government jobs being provided daily over the past 2.5 years.
Addressing a gathering during a function to distribute appointment letters to 443 officers in the Police, Law and Justice, and Home Affairs Departments, the Chief Minister highlighted that all these jobs have been awarded based purely on merit. He emphasized that the recruitment process was entirely transparent, with candidates securing jobs through rigorous competition. Mann stated that his government’s primary objective has been to empower the youth by providing them with government employment.
The Chief Minister noted that this was his second visit to the historic campus to distribute government job letters to the youth. He congratulated the 443 young individuals receiving their appointment letters, expressing hope that they would contribute to restoring the state’s former glory. Mann emphasized that this was a significant day as these youth were now entering public service to serve the people.
He further stated that these new recruits have become an integral part of the government and should serve the public with dedication. Mann encouraged them to use their positions to assist the needy and underprivileged sections of society, ensuring maximum public welfare.

Mann also highlighted the positive response to the state’s pro-people policies, which have significantly increased tax collection. He mentioned the closure of 19 toll plazas across the state, including two that were shut down the previous night. Despite requests for extensions, these closures were implemented in the public’s best interest, saving Rs 63 lakh daily for Punjabis.
The Chief Minister announced the passage of the historic ‘One MLA, One Pension’ bill, which limits each MLA to a single pension, contrasting with the previous policy that allowed multiple pensions for each term served. This change aims to prevent the misuse of public funds and ensure that every rupee is spent wisely.
For the first time, 410 high-tech vehicles have been allocated to Station House Officers (SHOs) in Punjab Police to maintain law and order effectively. Unlike previous practices where new vehicles were given to top officials, these vehicles are now provided to officers at the grassroots level. Mann noted that this initiative has significantly improved the police’s efficiency in maintaining law and order and safeguarding the public.

Mann called on police officers to take an active role in eradicating the drug menace from the state. He emphasized that Punjab Police has always been a crucial barrier against the drug trade and should continue this tradition to eliminate drugs from the state.
He also introduced the groundbreaking initiative of the Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) in Punjab, equipped with 144 ultra-modern vehicles to monitor road safety. These vehicles, deployed at 30-kilometer intervals, have already played a vital role in saving over 1000 lives since the force’s inception in February 2024.
Mann expressed pride in the Punjab Police’s efforts to ensure the safety of the state’s over three crore residents. He highlighted the government’s focus on modernizing the police force, including the introduction of Artificial Intelligence. The state has allocated Rs 45 crore for this purpose, marking a significant advancement in law enforcement capabilities.

He revealed that for the first time, around 3000 AI-enabled cameras would be installed at the borders to monitor and prevent the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and other contraband. Additionally, the state government plans to recruit 10,000 new officers in the Punjab Police, with the notification for these positions already issued.
The Chief Minister stated that the government intends to recruit 1800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors annually for the next four years to address the shortage of police personnel. With an estimated 2.5 lakh candidates expected to apply for these 2100 positions each year, the process will encourage youths to focus on academics and physical fitness, thereby channeling their energy positively and steering them away from drug abuse.
