670+ Korean Firms in India… Now Punjab is Next! PPIS 2026 Spotlights Explosive Growth

The Republic of Korea Country Session at the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit (PPIS) 2026 underscored the strengthening economic ties between Punjab and Korea, with focused discussions on advanced manufacturing, technology collaboration, MSME partnerships, and emerging investment prospects.

The session convened key stakeholders including representatives from the Government of Punjab, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, leading industry figures, and trade promotion bodies to explore avenues for deepening bilateral industrial cooperation.

Eui-Jin Chon, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, noted that India–Korea economic relations have grown significantly, with more than 670 Korean companies now operating across India. She highlighted that the upcoming phase of Korean investments is likely to target sectors such as shipbuilding, semiconductors, MSME linkages, and advanced manufacturing. Chon also emphasized Korea’s strategic interest in expanding collaboration with India in cutting-edge fields like defence, space, and artificial intelligence. She stressed the value of institutionalizing people-to-people connections to further solidify bilateral ties and expressed optimism that partnerships with Punjab will continue to flourish, given the state’s robust industrial foundation.

Jaewook (Jake) Lee, Executive Director of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), outlined KOTRA’s pivotal role in fostering trade and investment connections between Korean firms and international partners. He reaffirmed KOTRA’s keen interest in supporting Korean investments in Punjab’s priority sectors.

B.K. Lee, President of Sunjin India, praised Punjab’s potential to become a major driver of industrial growth and highlighted opportunities for technology-led partnerships between Korean companies and Punjab’s manufacturing ecosystem. He pointed out that collaboration in areas such as IT manufacturing, food processing, and industrial trade could significantly boost economic momentum between Korea and Punjab.

A key highlight of the session was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DCM Group of Schools, Punjab, and TAGHIVE, Republic of Korea. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in education technology and digital learning solutions. The MoU was exchanged between Mr. Anirudh Gupta, CEO of DCM Group of Schools, and Mr. Pankaj Aggarwal, CEO of TAGHIVE, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Baljit Kaur, Hon’ble Minister, spoke about Punjab’s evolution into a diversified economic powerhouse. While acknowledging the state’s strong agricultural heritage, she emphasized active efforts to promote new-age sectors to engage the younger generation in modern industry and entrepreneurship. She positioned Punjab as a strategic gateway for industrial expansion, innovation, and sustainable economic resilience.

The session reinforced the mutual commitment of both sides to further advance Punjab–Korea partnerships in technology, manufacturing, and skill development, while actively pursuing new opportunities through sustained institutional and industry-level engagement.
