Patiala, January 1:
Patiala district has witnessed a 72% decrease in stubble burning incidents in 2024 compared to the previous year. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav. The Deputy Commissioner today, on the occasion of the New Year, honored 26 nodal officers and 46 cluster officers from various departments by distributing appreciation letters for their significant role in preventing paddy stubble burning in the district during the past year. She informed that in 2023, 1870 cases of stubble burning in fields were reported in the district. In 2024, this number was recorded at only 525, which is a 72% reduction.
At a special ceremony held at the District Administrative Complex to honor the cluster and nodal officers with appreciation letters for their excellent work in preventing stubble burning, Dr. Preeti Yadav said that the nodal officers and cluster officers have not only saved the environment of Patiala district but have also helped the farmers by working with dedication and determination. She said that the District Patiala administration and the Punjab Pollution Control Board are thanking and honoring them for the important role played by these officers and employees.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the cluster and nodal officers have worked day and night, working as a team, and have performed their duties diligently during a very difficult time, due to which the cases of stubble burning in Patiala district have reduced significantly compared to previous years and the set targets have been achieved. She expressed hope that next time there will be no case of paddy stubble burning in the district and all the farmers, while taking care of their land and environment, will manage the stubble through in-situ and ex-situ methods.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Isha Singal, Punjab Pollution Control Board Environmental Engineer Gurkaran Singh, S.D.O. Mohit Singla, and nodal and cluster officers from various departments were present on the occasion.
