Paris Olympics: Ramita Jindal Reaches 10m Air Rifle Final

Paris/Patiala, 29 July (Sports Desk)

Indian shooter Ramita Jindal has qualified for the final of the women’s 10m air rifle event at the Paris Olympics. She secured the fifth position in the qualification round with a total score of 631.5.

Her compatriot Elavenil Valarivan, who was among the top shooters in the early stages, missed out on the final by a narrow margin, finishing in the 10th position with a score of 630.7.

Jindal’s journey to the final was marked by a slow start. She was outside the top eight until the sixth and final series but managed to secure a spot in the final with some excellent shots in the end.

Elavenil, who finished 16th at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, was in the fifth position for most of the qualification round but slipped to the 10th position due to a poor score of 103.8 in the final series.

Ramita, who had scored 636.4 points in the Olympic selection trials in New Delhi and Bhopal, which was just 0.1 points short of the world record, had a slow start. She scored 104.6 in the initial series but improved her performance in the subsequent series to qualify for the final.

South Korea’s Ban Hyojung set a new qualification Olympic record (QOR) with a score of 634.5. The previous record was held by Norway’s Jeanette Hegg (632.9) set at the Tokyo Olympics.
