To better serve the global Punjabi diaspora, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday inaugurated a state-of-the-art NRI Facilitation Centre, named the “Punjab Help Centre,” at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister described the day as a historic moment for Punjab, noting that it is the first state to introduce such an initiative. This center, he explained, demonstrates the state government’s strong commitment to supporting and assisting NRIs. The Punjab Help Centre will operate 24/7, offering a range of services to NRIs and other travelers arriving at the terminal. Additionally, the center has two Innova vehicles available for passengers needing transportation to Punjab Bhawan or nearby locations.
The Chief Minister also outlined the services offered by the center, including assistance with arrival flights, connecting flights, taxi services, lost luggage, and any other airport-related needs. In cases of emergency, a limited number of rooms at Punjab Bhawan, Copernicus Marg, will be made available to passengers or their relatives, subject to availability. Turning his attention to the recent controversy involving wrestler Vinesh Phogat, Chief Minister Mann called for a transparent investigation into the role of the supporting staff involved. He emphasized that the incident has deeply affected the sports community and underscored the need for a thorough, unbiased inquiry to restore public trust and reveal the truth. Mann specifically questioned the actions of the staff, who failed to ensure that the wrestler maintained the required weight.

The Chief Minister further stated that the incident raises serious concerns that can only be addressed through a comprehensive and fair investigation. He pointed out that managing a minor weight difference should not have been an issue in such a prestigious event, where the nation’s pride is at stake. This failure, he said, reflects poorly on the supporting staff, who were responsible for such critical details. Responding to another query, Bhagwant Singh Mann assured that the issue of seamless vehicle entry from Punjab into the national capital will soon be resolved, especially since the Aam Aadmi Party now governs the MCD.
