Four-time Olympian Deepika Kumari and her husband, two-time Olympian Atanu Das, have appointed former Commonwealth Games champion Rahul Banerjee as their new coach. The pair is currently competing in the National Archery Championships in Jamshedpur, with Banerjee accompanying them.
Banerjee, an Asian Games and Asian Championships medalist, runs an archery academy in Kolkata with his sister, two-time Olympian Dola Banerjee.

The coaching partnership began after discussions between Banerjee and Das during their commentary work at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Das explained that he appreciated Banerjee’s ideas, leading to them starting to work together in August, with Deepika joining shortly after.
Deepika, a former world No. 1, has achieved success at nearly every major archery event except the Olympics. Following quarter-final exits in both individual and team events at Paris 2024, she made a strong comeback, winning silver at the Archery World Cup Final in October.

While Atanu Das missed qualifying for Paris 2024, both archers, Deepika (30) and Das (32), are now focused on representing India at the LA 2028 Olympics. Das affirmed their continued “dream and hunger” for an Olympic medal.
Banerjee explained that their coaching approach focuses on “gap analysis,” addressing Deepika’s time management and Das’s left-hand issues. He aims to prepare them to handle the pressure of future Olympics by bridging any existing gaps in their training.
