After securing mayoral positions in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Patiala, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now clinched the Phagwara Municipal Corporation as well. AAP’s Rampal Uppal has been elected as the new Mayor of Phagwara, with Tejpal Basra as Senior Deputy Mayor and Vipan Krishna as Deputy Mayor.
AAP Punjab President Aman Arora congratulated the newly elected office bearers, emphasizing that the councilors put Phagwara’s development above party politics by choosing an AAP mayor.
AAP’s Dominance in Punjab’s Local Elections
Addressing a press conference in Phagwara alongside MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia, and other party leaders, Aman Arora thanked AAP’s leadership, local representatives, and grassroots workers. He hailed this victory as the fruit of relentless efforts by party members.
Arora highlighted AAP’s recent success in Punjab’s local body elections, stating:
✔ In the elections for 46 municipal corporations, councils, and panchayats, AAP secured a clear majority in 41 places.
✔ Even in areas where AAP lacked a majority, councilors still elected AAP mayors due to the party’s strong governance focus.

Arora affirmed that the Phagwara mayoral election was conducted under the guidelines of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, with retired Justice Harbans Lal overseeing the process. He also criticized the Congress party, stating that their attempts to disrupt the Amritsar mayoral elections were dismissed by the High Court.

Speaking directly to the residents of Phagwara, Aman Arora assured them that development will remain the top priority. He urged opposition councilors to work together for the city’s progress, saying:
