Punjab Government Focuses on Increasing Youth Recruitment in Armed Forces

Chandigarh, February 4
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized the state government’s commitment to increasing the recruitment of Punjabi youth into the Indian Armed Forces. He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation led by Air Marshal Hardeep Bains AVSM VSM, Commandant of the National Defence College.
Mann acknowledged Punjab’s rich history of service in the Armed Forces, while noting a recent decline in recruitment. He highlighted the state government’s efforts to reverse this trend, citing the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, and C-Pyte centers as institutions playing a vital role in preparing young people for military careers.
The Chief Minister reiterated Punjab’s unique position as both the nation’s food bowl and its “sword arm,” acknowledging the courage and resilience of its people. He emphasized the state’s 532-kilometer border with Pakistan, underscoring the crucial support provided by the Armed Forces.

Recognizing the sacrifices of Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, police, and Agniveers, the state government provides ₹1 crore in financial assistance to the families of those martyred in the line of duty. Mann affirmed the government’s dedication to the well-being of soldiers and their families.
He also highlighted the state’s pioneering Sadak Surakhya Force, established to enhance road safety and reduce accident fatalities. The force, comprising 1597 trained personnel, including women, and equipped with 144 vehicles, has contributed to a 48% reduction in accident casualties since its launch last February.
Welcoming the National Defence College delegation, which included officers from Sri Lanka, Egypt, Korea, Oman, Russia, and other nations, Mann expressed his hope that their visit would provide valuable insights into Punjab’s socio-political-economic, cultural, and religious landscape. He also aimed to showcase the state’s administrative, governance, and law and order challenges.
Mann directed officials to highlight Punjab’s rich cultural heritage and extend warm hospitality to the visiting delegates. The delegation members commended the Chief Minister’s initiatives for the welfare of Armed Forces personnel and their families.
