Bhagwant Mann Orders Enhanced Inter-Departmental Coordination for Maximum Relief
Chandigarh, September 16, 2025
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to intensify efforts to provide health check-ups and treatment to people in the flood-affected districts of the state.
While chairing a review meeting here today, the Chief Minister stated that the recent floods have caused widespread damage across several districts. As the water recedes, there is a significant risk of diseases spreading among humans and animals. He emphasized that the state government is already undertaking large-scale measures to prevent disease outbreaks. Mann noted that approximately 1.50 lakh people have benefited from health check-up camps set up in flood-affected villages, where cases of fever, diarrhea, skin infections, and other ailments have been identified on a large scale.

The Chief Minister announced that a special healthcare campaign was launched on September 14 to address post-flood health challenges. This campaign focuses on ensuring healthcare access in affected villages, tackling monsoon-related diseases, preventing contagious diseases, and protecting the elderly, pregnant women, and children. Comprehensive health check-ups are being conducted across all 2,303 affected villages, with medical camps organized over three days. These camps are equipped with doctors, paramedical teams, support staff, essential medicines, and other supplies. Mann added that ASHA workers are visiting every household, reaching approximately 2.47 lakh homes so far.
Mann stated that health kits, including ORS, mosquito repellent, paracetamol, cetirizine, chlorine tablets, soap, and other basic medical supplies, are being distributed with the goal of reaching every household by September 20, 2025. A 21-day fogging campaign has been initiated to control mosquitoes across all villages, with inspections to identify and treat mosquito breeding sites through immediate spraying.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Animal Husbandry Department has launched a robust campaign to prevent disease outbreaks among livestock. So far, 14,780 animals have been treated, and 48,535 have been vaccinated free of cost. The safe and scientific disposal of deceased animals is being ensured to prevent contamination of soil and water. Mann stressed the need for immediate cleaning of villages, streets, ponds, and drains, alongside waste management and timely garbage disposal to curb mosquito breeding. He advocated for large-scale cleanliness drives, proper drainage of stagnant water, and fogging in affected areas.
Mann directed that rural employment workers be deployed for fogging, mosquito control, and cleanliness efforts, with all cleaning work to be completed by September 21. Livestock sheds, feeding areas, and water troughs are also being thoroughly cleaned, with potassium permanganate distributed free to farmers to maintain hygiene. Farmers have been advised to regularly clean animals’ hooves and udders to prevent diseases.
