Punjab Anti-Corruption Crackdown: Mining SDO Arrested for ₹8 Lakh Bribe

Chandigarh, July 28

Acting under the Punjab Government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Ramanjot Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) posted in the Mining Department at Derabassi, SAS Nagar district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹8 lakh.

According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made following a complaint received through the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line portal.

The spokesperson said that FIR No. 16 was registered against the accused SDO after he allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹40 lakh from the complainant. During subsequent negotiations, the accused reportedly agreed to accept ₹19.40 lakh. Following the complainant’s request, the SDO allegedly accepted ₹8 lakh as part of the bribe in exchange for not taking action against him for lifting soil from his own land.

The Vigilance Bureau stated that audio recordings submitted by the complainant verified the allegations, leading to the registration of a case.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Mohali.

Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
