Punjab Launches 54 New Sewa Kendras for Citizens

Cabinet Minister Aman Arora Reviews Citizen Service Delivery and Sewa Kendra Operations with Department Officials and Deputy Commissioners

Chandigarh, December 16

Building on Punjab’s notable success in achieving the nation’s lowest pendency in service delivery, the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is poised to further enhance its citizen service infrastructure by adding 54 new Sewa Kendras. This expansion will increase the total number of centres to 598 statewide, as announced by Good Governance and Information Technology Minister Aman Arora on Tuesday.

The announcement was made during a detailed review meeting on citizen service delivery and Sewa Kendra operations, chaired by Minister Arora at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA). Senior departmental officials attended in person, while all Deputy Commissioners participated via video conference. Additional Chief Secretary (GG&IT) DK Tiwari and Director (GG&IT) Vishesh Sarangal were also present.

The discussion highlighted the strong performance of the existing 544 Sewa Kendras (263 urban and 281 rural), which are self-sustaining and provide 465 Government-to-Citizen (G2C) services along with 7 Business-to-Citizen (B2C) services. Key topics included pendency levels, service-specific performance, objections by officials, and the online field verification process.

It was noted that “send back” cases have significantly decreased, reflecting a reduction in unnecessary objections.

Reiterating the government’s goal of zero pendency, Minister Arora instructed Deputy Commissioners to ensure all services are delivered within prescribed timelines. He added that top-performing districts in application processing will receive rewards, and officials achieving zero pendency will be recognised.

The Minister commended district administrations for achieving 100% onboarding of field verification authorities (Patwaris, Sarpanches, Nambardars, and Municipal Councillors) for online verification via E-Sewa, M-Sewa, and WhatsApp. Around 4 lakh applications have been received for online verification, with 96.3% processed, he stated.

Minister Arora directed that construction of the new Sewa Kendras be completed by January 15, 2026.

Additionally, the Punjab government has launched the ‘Sarkar Tuhade Dwaar’ programme and introduced the citizen service delivery portal (connect.punjab.gov.in) to improve user experience, efficiency, and accessibility.
