In a bold move to transform urban mobility and connectivity, the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government has officially rolled out the “Next Generation Road Renovation Program” in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali), Punjab’s fastest-growing urban hub.
The ambitious project targets rapid, high-quality upgradation of major arterial roads and critical junctions under the jurisdiction of GMADA (Greater Mohali Area Development Authority) and the Municipal Corporation, addressing long-standing issues like congestion, potholes, and poor road conditions.

Key Highlights from Housing & Urban Development Minister Hardeep Mundian’s Announcement:
- Execution Model: Adopted on the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) pattern using the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) — ensuring top-tier construction quality and long-term accountability.
- Maintenance Commitment: The awarded contractor will handle not just execution but also 10 years of comprehensive maintenance, guaranteeing durable, well-kept roads.
- Financial Structure: Follows a 40:60 formula — 40% of costs paid by the government during construction; the remaining 60% released as annuity payments over 10 years post-completion. This incentivizes contractors to deliver and sustain high standards.
- Scope & Scale: Worth approximately ₹700 crore, the program will cover around 80 km of key road network, including resurfacing damaged stretches, strengthening arterial roads, and tackling traffic bottlenecks for smoother, safer commuting.
- Beautification Focus: Emphasis on modern aesthetics — landscaping, advanced lighting, enhanced green cover, and junction enhancements to elevate Mohali’s urban appeal and environmental quality.
- Timeline: Works to kick off in February 2026 and conclude by October 2026, with strict timelines to minimize public inconvenience while maximizing efficiency.
- Oversight: Senior officers and departments have been directed to ensure zero compromise on quality, timely execution, and public-friendly implementation.
Minister Mundian emphasized that this citizen-centric initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision of modern, planned urban development. “The Mann Government is committed to world-class infrastructure that boosts road safety, reduces travel time, stimulates economic growth, and enhances quality of life for Mohali residents,” he stated.
He added that such focused efforts — building on ongoing upgrades to state highways and rural roads — will continue to make Punjab’s cities more livable, connected, and vibrant.
The announcement was made at Punjab Bhawan, with key officials including Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development, Vikas Garg present.
