Punjab Vigilance Bureau Traps PSPCL Lineman Red-Handed Accepting ₹5,000 Bribe in Hoshiarpur

In yet another decisive blow against corruption in public utilities, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Lineman Balveer Singh (Fauzi), posted at the Sub Divisional Office of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Attowal, district Hoshiarpur, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.
An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau revealed that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of village Tanuli, district Hoshiarpur. The complainant, who works in agriculture, had applied for shifting the route of an electricity line from the meter directly to his house for convenience.
During discussions, the accused Lineman Balveer Singh (Fauzi) demanded ₹5,000 as illegal gratification to carry out the requested work. The complainant secretly recorded the bribe demand conversation as evidence.
After verifying the complaint through preliminary inquiry, the Vigilance Bureau laid a carefully planned trap. The accused was caught red-handed accepting the bribe amount of ₹5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Balveer Singh (Fauzi) at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station in Mohali. Further investigation is underway to probe any additional irregularities or involvement.
This arrest is part of the Punjab government’s intensified crackdown on corruption, especially in departments providing essential services like electricity, reinforcing the message that corrupt practices will not be tolerated. Citizens are encouraged to report such incidents confidentially.
