Chandigarh, October 8
As part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign across Punjab, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Hardeep Singh, posted with the Mining Department in Nabha, Patiala district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a contractor from Alipur Arian village in Patiala district.
According to the complaint, the accused officer had allegedly threatened to issue challans against the contractor’s overloaded tipper vehicles and demanded Rs 50,000 in exchange for not taking any action against him.

Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Range, Patiala, and reported the matter. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and caught the accused officer red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 50,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
The spokesperson further stated that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Patiala. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
