Chandigarh, April 13
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Seed Certification Officer Amritpal Singh red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
According to a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the accused, who is posted at the Punjab State Seed Certification Authority in Ludhiana, was caught in a trap laid by the VB team.
The case was registered on the complaint of a seed producer from Mansa district who runs M/s Punjab Agri Seed Farm. The complainant had sown wheat seeds on approximately 510 hectares (1,275 acres) of land. Amritpal Singh, as the Seed Certification Officer, was responsible for inspecting these crops.
The accused visited the farm around 10 days ago for inspection and allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹200 per hectare (totaling ₹1,02,000) in exchange for submitting a favourable inspection report. The complainant secretly recorded the conversation in which the bribe was demanded.

When the complainant refused to pay the illegal gratification, he approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Bathinda range. After verifying the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and caught Amritpal Singh accepting ₹50,000 as bribe money from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Bathinda. Further investigation is underway.
