–Sant Avtar Singh Tibbi Sahib Inspires Youth to Stay Connected with Sikhi
Rupnagar, April 18,
The 12th Punjab State Gatka Championship, organized by the District Gatka Association Rupnagar under the aegis of the Gatka Association of Punjab, commenced today with great enthusiasm and traditional fervor at Guru Nanak Model School, Laudhipur.
Teams from 15 districts of Punjab are participating in the two-day championship, creating a vibrant atmosphere of the Khalsa martial art in the region.
The championship was inaugurated by Sant Baba Avtar Singh Ji Tibbi Sahib in the presence of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Jathedar Parmjeet Singh Lakhowal, National Gatka Association of India President Advocate Harjeet Singh Grewal, and District Gatka Association Rupnagar President Bibi Manjit Kaur.
Addressing the gathering, Sant Avtar Singh Ji encouraged the young Gatka players and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Gatka Association of Punjab in promoting this traditional martial sport. He assured full support for the wider promotion and expansion of Gatka across the state.

SGPC member Jathedar Parmjeet Singh Lakhowal blessed the participants and highlighted that Rupnagar district has been consistently performing well in Gatka. He noted that in the previous National Gatka Championship, players from the district led the Punjab team and won several medals. He also praised the continuous efforts of Advocate Harjeet Singh Grewal in advancing the sport.
National President Advocate Harjeet Singh Grewal urged the players to compete with dedication and discipline. He expressed confidence that Gatka is steadily achieving new milestones and that international-level competitions would soon be organized in Punjab.
Several political and religious dignitaries, including former Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and former MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa, were also present. Various village panchayats from the region extended strong support to the tournament.
District Gatka Association President Bibi Manjit Kaur informed that the finals of the championship will be held tomorrow on Sunday, April 19, and the winners will be specially honored.
Among others present were Chairman of Guru Nanak Model School Gurbachan Singh, Gurpreet Singh Bhauwal, Gurvinder Singh Ghanauli, Jaspreet Singh, Parvinder Singh Rupnagar, Hardeep Singh, and several other distinguished guests.
