Gurdaspur Finish Runners-up, Fatehgarh Sahib Bag Third Position

Rupnagar district delivered a stellar performance to clinch the overall title at the 12th Punjab State Gatka Championship 2026. The two-day tournament, organized by the District Gatka Association Rupnagar under the aegis of the Gatka Association of Punjab, concluded on Sunday at Guru Nanak Model School, Laudimajra.
Gurdaspur secured the second position, while Fatehgarh Sahib finished third in the overall standings.
Top Performers Honoured
Several outstanding Gatka players were felicitated for their exceptional performances:
- Best Gatkabaaz (Sub-Junior Category): Baljot Singh (Rupnagar)
- Best Player (Junior Category): Dilraj Singh (Amritsar)
- Best Player (Senior Category): Amanpreet Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib)
Addressing the closing ceremony as the chief guest, Rupnagar MLA Dinesh Chadha praised the District Gatka Association Rupnagar for successfully organizing the championship and promoting the traditional martial art. He emphasized that Rupnagar, being closely associated with the Khalsa legacy, has a special responsibility in preserving and popularizing Gatka. He assured full support for improving facilities for Gatka players and further strengthening the sport in the state.

Advocate Harjeet Singh Grewal, President of the National Gatka Association of India, thanked all participating teams, referees, and coaches. He expressed confidence that through collective efforts, Gatka is steadily progressing and highlighted the long-term goal of securing its inclusion in the Olympic Games.
