Chandigarh, 23 May 2026:
The State Election Commission, Punjab, today announced that a total of 7,555 candidates will contest the Municipal General Elections 2026, scheduled to be held across Punjab on 26 May 2026.
According to the Commission, the candidates include 1,801 from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), 1,550 from the Indian National Congress (INC), 1,316 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 1,251 from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and 96 from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). In addition, 1,528 Independent candidates and 13 candidates from other parties will also be in the fray.

The Commission further stated that a detailed list of all contesting candidates has been attached.
