Six New Food Safety Officers Appointed in Punjab to Strengthen Food Safety Enforcement

Chandigarh, September 30

To further strengthen food safety enforcement and monitoring in Punjab, as envisioned by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh on Wednesday handed over appointment letters to six newly recruited Food Safety Officers (FSOs) of the Department of Food Safety at his office here.

The newly appointed officers are Anish Pal Singh, Shivali Bawa, Gurleen Kaur, Isha Rani, Priyanka, and Shubham Sharma.

Congratulating the newly appointed officers, Dr. Balbir Singh urged them to perform their duties with professionalism, integrity and dedication, keeping public health as their foremost priority. He said ensuring access to safe and wholesome food for every citizen remains a key priority of the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The Health Minister said the induction of the new officers would strengthen the capacity of the Food Safety Department and enhance field-level monitoring and enforcement across the state. He added that the officers would be responsible for ensuring effective implementation of food safety regulations, conducting regular inspections of food establishments, facilitating systematic sampling and testing of food products, and taking prompt action against violations of food safety standards.

Dr. Balbir Singh further said the newly appointed Food Safety Officers would be strategically deployed across Punjab according to departmental requirements to discharge their statutory responsibilities under the applicable food safety laws and regulations.

Wishing the officers a successful career ahead, the Health Minister urged them to discharge their responsibilities with commitment and ensure that consumers across Punjab have access to safe, hygienic and standard-compliant food products.

Principal Secretary Health Kumar Rahul, Director Health Services Dr. Hitinder Kaur, Director Health Services (Family Welfare) Dr. Aditi Salaria, and Joint Commissioner Food Safety Dr. Amit Joshi were among those present on the occasion.
